Total Compensation Package

This is a very unique role for the Food & Beverage Industry – offering hours primarily M-F, 9-5 with the exception of special events and the annual Sidewalk Film Festival.
Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of Sidewalk Cinema, ensuring a high-quality guest experience, efficient business performance, and alignment with the organization’s nonprofit mission. This role manages staff and leadership teams (including the AGM and Shift Managers), oversees bar and concessions operations, maintains compliance and financial accountability, and supports Sidewalk’s community-focused programming and events.
The GM is both a big-picture thinker and hands-on leader — equally comfortable managing payroll and budgets as they are jumping behind the bar on a busy night. They set the tone for workplace culture, ensuring the cinema remains welcoming, creative, and mission-driven.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and support the Assistant General Manager, Shift Managers, and all front-of-house staff.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
- Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations for all FOH employees.
- Ensure all staff are cross-trained and capable of maintaining smooth operations across departments.
- Manage staffing levels in coordination with the AGM and adjust based on programming and demand.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee all daily operations of the cinema, including bar, concessions, and event activities.
- Ensure adherence to alcohol service, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain clear systems and checklists for opening, closing, and shift transitions.
- Support technical and facilities teams to ensure equipment and spaces are maintained and functional.
- Coordinate with programming and marketing teams on event logistics and scheduling.
Financial Management
- Oversee cash handling, POS reconciliation, and deposits.
- Track weekly and monthly sales, expenses, and labor costs.
- Manage budgets for bar, concessions, and operational supplies.
- Approve and verify tip pool calculations and staff payroll hours.
- Order and manage inventory efficiently to minimize waste and control costs.
Customer Experience & Community Engagement
- Maintain Sidewalk’s standard of friendly, professional, and creative customer service.
- Resolve guest concerns or escalated issues with empathy and professionalism.
- Represent Sidewalk Cinema to the public, building positive relationships with patrons, partners, and vendors.
- Support the development of community events, rentals, and special programming.
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain current business, health, and alcohol licenses and certifications.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal HR policies.
- Develop and maintain clear SOPs for all operational areas.
- Communicate consistently with the Executive Director/Managing Director regarding performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in cinema, hospitality, or venue management.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, reporting, and cash management.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or arts organizations preferred.
- Must be 21+ and able to obtain/maintain Alabama alcohol manager certification.
- Passion for independent film, the arts, and Sidewalk’s mission and community.

Seasonal Box Office Associate (Part Time)
Job Title: Cinema and Festival Box Office Associate (Seasonal Position)
Position Summary
The Cinema and Festival Box Office Associate is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while supporting daily box office operations, ticket sales, and event coordination for both the Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema and the Sidewalk Film Festival, and will support the setup, staffing, and breakdown of box office locations during festival week. This position reports to the Cinema & Festival Box Office Manager and serves as a key point of contact for patrons and filmmakers via in-person interactions, phone, and email. This role ensures smooth ticketing operations and a high level of patron satisfaction through strong knowledge and professional service.
This is a seasonal, part-time hourly position running from approximately May through September with flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Full availability is required during the festival week (August 24–30, 2026), with an expectation of paid overtime during that period.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, professional customer service to patrons and filmmakers; greet guests and resolve inquiries or concerns
- Sell and process tickets in person, online, and by phone using the Elevent ticketing system.
- Manage guest lists, will call, ticket exchanges, and promotions in accordance with policies
- Answer phones, respond to emails, and maintain accurate ticketing information
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues related to box office software and hardware
- Handle cash and credit transactions; balance cash drawers and complete daily financial reporting
- Assist with merchandise and membership sales
- Complete administrative tasks such as filing, reporting, recordkeeping, and supply management
- Support front-of-house operations, including assisting guests with accessibility needs
- Assist with setup and operation of off-site festival box offices
- Develop strong knowledge of cinema and festival programming, schedules, and venues to provide accurate information
- Support the Box Office Manager in training and overseeing festival volunteers during festival week
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Box Office Management

This position works closely with festival leadership, committee heads, and operations staff to ensure all volunteer needs are met efficiently and that volunteers are well-prepared, informed, and supported throughout the festival lifecycle. The role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced event environment.
This is a seasonal, part-time, hybrid hourly position running from approximately May through September. Full availability is required during festival weekend (August 28–30, 2026), with part-time availability during festival week (August 24–27, 2026) preferred.

- Collaborate with festival leadership to assess and define volunteer staffing needs for the 2026 festival
- Create, manage, and maintain volunteer shifts and scheduling within Salesforce
- Launch, monitor, and optimize volunteer registration and signup processes
- Partner with the Marketing Manager to support and execute volunteer recruitment outreach and campaigns
- Coordinate with the Box Office Manager and Director of Operations to plan, inventory, and manage volunteer perks
- Draft and distribute email communications; support Committee Heads in staffing their teams and ensuring consistent communication with volunteers
- Participate in ticketing training to gain working knowledge of ticket sales and merchandise transactions
- Utilize Salesforce reporting tools to generate and distribute regular volunteer status reports (weekly, increasing to bi-weekly and daily as the festival approaches) to track fill rates and provide contact information
- Develop and send key volunteer communications via Salesforce, including:
- Festival-wide reminder emails (one week prior)
- Shift-specific reminders (48 hours in advance)
- Oversee the setup, breakdown, and daily operations of Volunteer HQ during festival weekend, including volunteer check-in, perk distribution, and equipment management
- Track and document volunteer attendance, including no-shows, issues, and performance notes within Salesforce
- Collect and analyze post-festival feedback and data from volunteers and Committee Heads to support continuous improvement of festival operations and overall experience
- Perform other duties as assigned by festival leadership
