BCRI x Sidewalk Cinema: Summer Film Series – I’m Still Here: A Life on Dynamite Hill + Panel Discussion

This month’s Summer Film Series with Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is presented in partnership with the City of Birmingham’s Department of Community Development. We’re proud to present I’m Still Here: A Life on Dynamite Hill, a film that honors the legacy of the Dynamite Hill community while inviting us to imagine its future. In 2023, the Birmingham Housing Authority and the City of Birmingham were awarded a $50 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grant focused on the Smithfield-College Hills-Graymont community. Birmingham is the first city in Alabama to receive this grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. As development prepares to move forward, this screening offers a moment to pause, honor the past, and envision the future together. Attendees can also learn more about the upcoming Smithfield Public Art Walk, a project led by the City’s Community Development Department. Following the film, we’ll host a discussion with featured film subjects Jefferson Drew, Barbara Shores, and Judge Houston Brown, reflecting on the history of Dynamite Hill and what’s possible moving forward. *Ticketing for this event is on a sliding scale "Pay What You Can" donation structure. Seating is limited and first come, first served.*
