Join us for a free screening of Asa Mendelsohn's film, PASTURE, and a post film discussion moderated by Vinegar Projects. In PASTURE, a grassroots movement successfully resists private military development near the US-Mexico border in Southern California, where a young, trans New Yorker arrives in pursuit of an unlikely coalition. The film combines history, diary, and performance to intimately ask questions about solidarity, storytelling, and what it takes to change.

Asa Mendelsohn is an artist, writer, and educator. Pasture is his first mid-length film. Previous exhibitions include Kunsthalle Wien, Künstlerhaus Halle für Kunst und Medien, The Blanton Museum of Art, and Anthology Film Archives. An Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grantee and a

Fulbright Fellow, Asa has written librettos, including Aphasia (dir. Jelena Jureša, main award, Ji.hlava IDFF 2019), and essays published in MARCH International, Social Text, Sounding Out!, The Brooklyn Rail, and elsewhere.

Vinegar is an artist-run, women-led nonprofit contemporary art gallery in Birmingham, Alabama. Vinegar champions artists. We facilitate the creation and experience of contemporary art, infusing it into communities to support, challenge, and enrich our collective consciousness.”
